3G Roaming mandated by a mobile network operator

To analyse, indicate potential problems and develop concepts for the introduction of UMTS that fulfil roaming requirements

IPR strategy working for a mobile network operator

To review documents, interview the management in technical, patent and procurement departments, and to elaborate options for strategic IPR targets by proposing strategic targets and measures needed to support them

MMS re-development working for several network operators and manufacturers and GSMA

To provide a thorough analysis, develop concepts and lead the co-operative efforts of large operators and manufacturers, to recover from the situation in early 2002 (lack of features, lack of end to end interoperability, lack of roaming and interworking for routeing of messages between operators)

MMS Test working for GSMA

To elaborate the concept and most of the test cases for OMA MMS 1.2 compatibility and interoperability testing; in addition, to integrate other test cases and to ensure their adoption by OMA.

Concept for MMS clearing house working for MACH

Terminals working for a mobile network operator

To provide know-how on the handset market, technologies and key component suppliers, and to provide input for a mid to long-term terminal strategy

Provide technical expertise and witnesses in two litigations in UK between Nokia and Interdigital. H&P worked for Nokia

  • UK1: GSM
  • UK2: UMTS portfolio of IDC containing 29 patents declared as essential by the owner. Only one was partly declared to be essential by the court, the remaining patents were either withdrawn or declared to be non-essential by the court
  • UK3

Provide technical expertise and witnesses in the litigation in the UK between Nokia and Qualcomm. H&P worked for Nokia

Qualcomm sought an injunction based on 2 CDMA patents they declared to be essential for GSM. The court revoked the patents.

Provide expertise on the ETSI IPR Policy to several manufacturers

These litigations were ended by an agreement between the parties.

Company evaluation working for a private equity fund

Analysis of the strength of the product portfolio and market position and expectations for a smaller mobile manufacturer

Reorganisation working for WiMAX Forum

A review of the organisation for standardisation work was held and a proposal for an optimisation was elaborated. The implementation was accompanied.

Technical project management working for the NGMN cooperation

Develop technical concept, review progress in LTE/SAE standardisation, propose contributions to standardisation
